Faster Transitions, Better Outcomes: Ward B2 AMU Opens Its Doors

As part of our continuous efforts to enhance patient care and hospital efficiency, we officially opened Ward B2 Acute Medical Unit (AMU) on 17 March 2025—a step forward in streamlining care and improving the patient experience.

Located at Tower B, Level 2 (formerly the HR office), this new short-stay medical unit is designed to provide timely, focused, and high-quality care for patients requiring observation and treatment for up to 72 hours.
With 34 inpatient beds, AMU bridges the gap between the Emergency Department (ED) and inpatient wards, ensuring that patients receive the right care at the right time while reducing ED congestion and optimising bed utilisation.

More Than a New Ward—A Smarter Way to Care
The launch of AMU represents a new approach to hospital care—one that prioritises efficiency, collaboration, and patient well-being. By expediting medical interventions and streamlining patient flow, AMU enables faster decision-making and better outcomes for those in need of short-term medical care.

Behind this milestone is a dedicated team of professionals who worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life. A final inspection on 10 March—led by Mr Ng Kian Swan (COO, Group Facilities Management & Security and Emergency Planning, NUHS) and Clin A/Prof Shanaz Matthew Sajeed (Senior Consultant, Intensive Care Medicine, NTFGH)—ensured that the ward was fully equipped, safe, and ready to welcome patients.
Collaboration was at the heart of this effort, with representatives from Nursing, Emergency Department, Inpatient Operations, Bed Management Unit, Facilities Management, Pharmacy, Rehabilitation, Security, Housekeeping, IT, and Medical Informatics coming together to fine-tune processes and ensure a seamless launch. To reinforce safety, a mock fire drill evacuation on 11 March provided hands-on training for AMU nurses, strengthening their preparedness for real-life emergency scenarios.

A special shoutout to our Ward B2 AMU nurses, whose commitment and hard work behind the scenes—from setting up patient care stations to refining workflows—played a crucial role in making this transition smooth. Their dedication, teamwork, and passion embody the spirit of patient-centred care.

The opening of AMU is not just about adding a new ward; it’s about redefining how we deliver care. It is a delivery of what we can accomplish when we come together with a shared vision of progress, efficiency, and excellence. As we move forward, let’s continue to innovate, collaborate, and push boundaries to enhance patient care and build a stronger healthcare system for all.
